 The temple features:
This temple is located in Thirukachure about 12 kms from Chenglepet
The carpet area of the temple is about 45,600 sqft and is built facing east . It has a flat tower and has 2 corridors.(Pragarams) The deity is called Kachabeswarar and is in the east facing pose.It is said the deity is self-incarnated. The lord's consort Devi Anjanakshi amman has a separate sanctum facing south.
This temple has a theertham called koorma-theertham. There are many stone inscriptions in this temple giving the history of the kshetram
The saint who sang hymns here on the Lord:
Sundarar
Legendary description: When the mountain Mandara was used as a churning rod and the great snake Vasuki as the rope for churning the devas grasped Vasuki’s tail and the Demons grasped Vasuki’s head. But as the churning began, the mountain Mandara which had no base, began to sink into the ocean. Lord Vishnu came to this temple to have lord Shiva's darshan to get strength to support the mountain. Siva appeared before vishnu and said "Narayana you will have all the power to incarnate in any form to save the world and devas. I too will take part in your efforts " Giving this boon Siva disappeared. Vishnu was happy and he took form of a turtle and balanced the mountain on his back.
Because sri Vishnu took the form a turtle in this place hence forth this place came to be called Kachure.(kacchi is turtle in Sanskrit language) This temple's other name is Vaigal Madakovil. Also this is the one of the Tyagesar Sthalams and this deity is called Amirdha- Tyagesar.
