Aathma- Nadhar at Avudaiyar-Kovil

 The temple features:
This temple is located in Avudaiyar kovil about 14kms from Arantangi Railway Station in Tamil nadu.
The carpet area of the temple is 4,56,000 sqft and it has three corridors (Pragaram) and a tower in 7 stages.
The deity is called Aathma- Nadhar in the east facing pose. It is said the deity is self incarnated.
The lord's consort Devi Siva-yoga-Nayaki has a seperate sanctum facing east.
Unlike in other Siva temples there is no idol of Nandhi (the lords mount) and idol of Chandikeswarar.

There are many stone inscriptions in this temple giving the history of the kshetram

There are nine ' theerthams' as follows

Brahma theertham   


Narayana theertham,
Rudra theertham,
Vayu theertham
Asura theertham
Deva theertham.
Rishi theertham.
Agni theertham.
Nala koobam.( koobam is well)

There are six sabas located in this temple which is unusuall from other siva temples.

Aanandha Saba,
Sith Saba,
Sath Saba
Deva Saba
Nirutha Saba.
Kanaga Saba

This temple tree is Kurutha and it has two peetams called Yoga peetam and Pranava peetam.

Legend:This temple's presiding deva and devi control the various animate and inanimate domains of this universe - that is object or non-object or both together. This kind of philosophical truth can be seen only in this temple.These deities are nirguna brahmam - i.e. one can never be adequately described by the finite words.They are beyond definition. They can only be understood by experience.

Agoraveera-batrar, Kalika, Karthikeya with bow and Oordhavar scuiptures are amazing works of art in this temple.

It is said if one applies the mud from under the Kurutha tree he would be cured from any kind of Skin disease.
